Energy Safe Victoria has announced major warnings about the use of certain gas heaters.

If you have the following in your home, you might be at risk of hazardous carbon monoxide levels.

  • Regency i31 supplied by Fireplace Products Australia Pty Ltd
  • Regency F38 and FG38 supplied by Fireplace Products Australia Pty Ltd –branded and supplied by Massport prior to 2006 (excludes LP model)
  • Nectre 2000 (manufactured from 2007) supplied by Glen Dimplex Australia Pty Ltd
  • Real Flame Pyrotech (manufactured from 2012) also supplied by Glen Dimplex Australia Pty Ltd

Testing showed that these heaters, in certain situations, have produced too much carbon monoxide and will need alteration to prevent the occurrence of carbon monoxide poisoning.

What does this mean if you are property manager or a landlord?

You will need to inform your tenants about the potential threat and organise appliance testing as soon as possible by a qualified gasfitter.

These heaters should not be used under any circumstances if they have not been examined. We understand that heating is a requirement for some and so another source can be used for now. But please, DO NOT bring outside gas appliances inside.

Managing properties can be difficult, but gas heaters in rental properties should be checked every two years. And if you don’t remind tenants or landlords about the potential consequences of leaving gas heaters unmaintained, there could be legal action taken out against you.

As the cooler months approach, Detector Inspector can help you act quickly to ensure that landlords and tenants are protected with minimum hassle.

Unlike other service providers, our carbon monoxide check follows Energy Safe Victoria’s extensive testing procedures and guidelines.

All of our affordable single and multi-appliance package services are completed by fully accredited gasfitters, as per the instructions from Energy Safe Victoria and Consumer Affairs Victoria. Not to mention a 12-month warranty for extra protection.

Make sure the properties you manage are registered in a gas safety program to cover your duty of care and the safety of your tenants.

This is why Detector Inspectors gas safety program automatically keeps properties up-to-date with evolving compliance standards, meaning landlords and property managers can set, forget and know they’re in safe hands.
